Valuable Insights 5 Make God our gold

Job 22:25-26 (For greater impact read verses 21-30)
"and if the Almighty is your gold, and your precious silver; then you will delight yourself in the Almighty, and lift up your face to God." RSV

Insights: If we desire to delight in the Almighty and seek Him, decisions need to be made.  Allow God to be our gold and silver.  Let Him be the most valuable person in our life. Let Him be our security, refuge and safety.

I believe that the intensity needed to seek and search (In other words dig) for the things of God are in the following portions in the Bible.

Proverbs 2:1-5 (NKJV)
1  My son, if you receive my words, And treasure my commands within you,
2  So that you incline your ear to wisdom, And apply your heart to understanding;
3  Yes, if you cry out for discernment, And lift up your voice for understanding,
4  If you seek her as silver, And search for her as for hidden treasures;
5  Then you will understand the fear of the LORD, And find the knowledge of God.

Decisiveness vs. Double-mindedness

 Consider these verses.

Matthew 22:37-39
"And he said to him, "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it, You shall love your neighbor as yourself." RSV

Matthew 10:37-39

"If you love your father and mother more than you love me, you are not worthy of being mine; or if you love your son or daughter more than me, you are not worthy of being mine. If you refuse to take up your cross and follow me, you are not worthy of being mine. If you cling to your life, you will lose it; but if you give it up for me, you will save it." TLB

Insight: “Worldly people make gold their god.  Saints make God their gold."

Reflect on these portions of God's Word.

Proverbs 3:13-14
"Happy is the man who finds wisdom, And the man who gains understanding; For her proceeds are better than the profits of silver, And her gain than fine gold." NKJV

Proverbs 16:16
"How much better to get wisdom than gold! And to get understanding is to be chosen rather than silver." NKJV

1 Kings 3:5-14
"At Gibeon the Lord appeared to Solomon in a dream by night; and God said, "Ask! What shall I give you?"

And Solomon said: "You have shown great mercy to Your servant David my father, because he walked before You in truth, in righteousness, and in uprightness of heart with You; You have continued this great kindness for him, and You have given him a son to sit on his throne, as it is this day. Now, O Lord my God, You have made Your servant king instead of my father David, but I am a little child; I do not know how to go out or come in. And Your servant is in the midst of Your people whom You have chosen, a great people, too numerous to be numbered or counted.

Therefore give to Your servant an understanding heart to judge Your people, that I may discern between good and evil. For who is able to judge this great people of Yours?"

The speech pleased the Lord, that Solomon had asked this thing. Then God said to him: "Because you have asked this thing, and have not asked long life for yourself, nor have asked riches for yourself, nor have asked the life of your enemies, but have asked for yourself understanding to discern justice, behold, I have done according to your words; see, I have given you a wise and understanding heart, so that there has not been anyone like you before you, nor shall any like you arise after you. And I have also given you what you have not asked: both riches and honor, so that there shall not be anyone like you among the kings all your days. So if you walk in My ways, to keep My statutes and My commandments, as your father David walked, then I will lengthen your days." NKJV

Hebrews 11:24-26
"By faith Moses, when he became of age, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh's daughter, choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God than to enjoy the passing pleasures of sin, esteeming the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures in Egypt; for he looked to the reward." NKJV

Mark 8:36-37
"For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul?" NKJV

Matthew 4:8-11
"Again, the devil took Him up on an exceedingly high mountain, and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory. And he said to Him, "All these things I will give You if You will fall down and worship me."

Then Jesus said to him, "Away with you, Satan! For it is written, 'You shall worship the Lord your God, and Him only you shall serve.'"

Then the devil left Him, and behold, angels came and ministered to Him." NKJV

Philippians 3:7-8
"But whatever gain I had, I counted as loss for the sake of Christ. Indeed I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them as refuse, in order that I may gain Christ" RSV

Once again!!

Bottom line: Love God, delight in Him and dig in His Word for those precious nuggets with application!
