The importance of our fruit remaining is deeply connected to the enduring impact of our character and spiritual growth. When Jesus spoke of bearing fruit that remains (John 15:16), He was highlighting that the fruit of our lives—our character, actions, and influence—should have a lasting impact, not only for ourselves but for others and for God’s Kingdom.
The Importance of Fruit that Remains:
- Enduring Witness: Lasting fruit is evidence of a life rooted deeply in Christ. It’s not just about a momentary impact but a consistent, long-term influence that points others to God.
- Answered Prayers: Our fruit, particularly the character traits we cultivate, plays a significant role in our prayer life. When our lives align with God’s will, our prayers are more effective (John 15:7). This is because the fruit we bear—such as love, patience, faithfulness—reflects the nature of God and His Kingdom, aligning our desires and requests with His will.
- Spiritual Warfare: In the spirit realm, our prayers can be resisted or hindered, as seen in Daniel 10:13 and 1 Thessalonians 2:17-20. However, a strong faith, characterized by enduring fruit, can overcome these obstacles. Our steadfastness in faith helps to break through spiritual barriers and align us with God’s victory.
Character Qualities That Strengthen Our Faith:
- Dependability: This involves fulfilling commitments even when it requires sacrifice. Dependability builds trust in God’s promises, both in ourselves and others, and it reflects God’s unchanging nature (Psalm 15:4).
- Faithfulness: A consistent and unwavering commitment to God and His word. Faithfulness keeps us rooted in truth, ensuring our fruit remains and our faith grows stronger (Hebrews 11:6).
- Patience: Enduring through trials without wavering in faith. Patience allows us to wait on God’s timing, ensuring that our fruit matures and lasts (James 1:4).
Strengthening and Filling the Gaps in Our Faith:
- Continual Growth: Hebrews 11:6 emphasizes that without faith, it is impossible to please God. Therefore, we must continually seek to fill any gaps or weaknesses in our faith, ensuring that it remains strong and unshaken.
- Community and Teaching: Gathering together as believers is vital for strengthening our faith. Accurate and effective teachings help us identify areas where our faith may have cracks, and they provide the necessary knowledge and encouragement to fill those gaps.
Spiritual Perspective:
In the spiritual realm, every action and prayer have significance. When our faith is strong and our character reflects the fruit of the Spirit, we become effective vessels for God’s work. We must be vigilant, ensuring that our faith is not only strong but also continually growing, so that our prayers can break through any spiritual opposition.
As you reflect on these points, consider the character quality of dependability, as modeled by Jesus. This trait is key to ensuring that our commitments to God and others are fulfilled, even in the face of unexpected challenges. This level of dependability will help ensure that the fruit you bear is not only abundant but also enduring, bringing glory to God and advancing His Kingdom.
